Sustainability at Ardrie

At Ardrie, sustainability is not a marketing pillar. It is a way of living, designing, and leading — quietly, consistently, and over time.

From how we power our studio, to the products we use in our homes, to the farmers we partner with each week, our choices are guided by a simple belief -

care should be embedded, not announced.

At Ardrie, sustainability is practised rather than proclaimed.

We believe thoughtful beauty should feel considered at every stage — from how flowers are grown, to how they are designed, delivered, and eventually returned to the earth. Our approach prioritises responsibility without rigidity, and progress over perfection.

These decisions are not always the fastest or the most visible. They are, however, the ones that feel most aligned with how we want to work — and how we want to live.

Designing with the planet in mind

Ardrie’s floral practice prioritises local sourcing, low-impact design, and material responsibility.

Today, 80% of the flowers we design with are sourced from local Victorian growers. This significantly reduces transport emissions, avoids international freight, and supports small-scale farming households who work with integrity and care for their land.

We do not use floral foam.

We do not wrap flowers in plastic.

We design seasonally, allowing nature not trend cycles to lead.

These choices result in florals that feel more grounded, more alive, and more honest, beauty with a lighter footprint.

Supporting ethical flower farming

Our commitment to local flower farming goes beyond proximity.

We choose to work with growers who prioritise ethical labour practices, safe working conditions, and responsible growing methods that support soil health and biodiversity. Wherever possible, we select flowers grown with minimal chemical intervention, allowing the land and the people working it to be respected and sustained.

By sourcing locally, we reduce reliance on opaque global supply chains and ensure our work supports Australian farming households directly. It is a quieter choice than importing year-round variety, but one that aligns with our belief that care should be considered at every level.

A low impact studio by design

Sustainability at Ardrie extends beyond florals into the way our studio operates.

Our studio and electric delivery vehicle are powered by solar energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering emissions across our local delivery footprint. Double-glazed windows throughout the studio support long-term energy efficiency by reducing heating and cooling waste year-round.

These decisions are not short-term fixes. They are considered investments made to ensure Ardrie operates responsibly — now and into the future.

Sustainable choses practiced in studio & home

Ardrie’s sustainability ethos is not confined to the studio.

In both the studio and the founder’s home, all hand wash, general cleaning, dishwashing and laundry products have been consciously transitioned to Skipper — an Australian-made product selected for its reduced environmental impact and considered formulation.

This reflects how we see sustainability:

not as a campaign, but as a daily practice.

We do not claim to be perfect.

We believe that every small, considered choice matters.

Sustainability is shaped over time, through curiosity, learning, and a willingness to evolve. Year on year, we continue to deepen our understanding and refine our practices, knowing that progress is built through consistency rather than grand gestures.

Our work is informed by ongoing learning, including our Founder Kirsten McMahon being a Sustainable Floristry Network member florist, which supports responsible, ethical floristry practice and continuous improvement across our industry.

At Ardrie, we have learned that small transitions — made thoughtfully and repeated daily — bring meaningful rewards. For the spaces we care for. For the people we work alongside. And for the planet we share.

We encourage everyone to begin where they are.

Because when care becomes habit, change quietly follows.
