Flower Care Guide For Longevity

Flowers and foliage are highly perishable and delicate, as a result they should be  handled with great care.

To ensure the longevity of our post-harvest flowers and foliage products, please read the following care instructions:

  1. Remove flowers and foliage from any wrapping and ribbon

  2. Cut 2-3cms off the end of each stem, cutting on a 45 degree angle. This allows the water to travel up the stem and rehydrate the flowers and foliage. Ensure a clean sharp knife or scissors are used to reduce the change of contamination.

  3. Choose a vase that fits your flowers. It needs to be large enough to hold the florals without tipping over but small enough to ensure only the stems are sitting in the water not the flowers or foliage.

Vases can be glass or ceramic but please avoid metal vases (unless plastic lined) as metal can be toxic to florals and diminish their vase life.

  1. Fill the vase with cool, fresh water and swiftly place florals into the water.

  2. Remove any flowers or foliage that will sit below the water line of the vase. Wet leaves can lead to bacterial, viral and fungal issues.

Ideally keep flowers out of direct sunlight and avoid placing the florals in draft areas, including under air conditioning or heating units/vents.

Every 2 days:

  1. Change the water by taking the florals gently in one hand and tipping the water out over the sink. Refill the vase with cool, fresh water.

  2. With a sharp, clean knife or scissor, cut 2-3cms from the ends of your flowers and foliage at a 45 degree angle to assist with hydration and longevity of your florals.

Remove post-prime petals and leaves with a clean, sharp pair of scissors. This will help prevent issues with disease.

Flowers and foliage may finish their blooming at different times. Remove spent flowers and foliage and ensure you thoughtfully compost or place them in your Green Waste bins.

Ardrie Park Floral Studio will make every effort to make sure your beautiful, fresh blooms are handled with care and arrive safely.
